Tensor Fasciae Latae/ IT Band
Region: Hip and Thigh

Origin: Anterior part of outer lip of iliac crest, outer surface of anterior superior iliac spine.

Insertion: Iliotibial band of fascia latae on the anterolateral aspect of thigh, about 1/3 of the way down.

Isolated function: 
-Assists in concentric acceleration of hip flexion.
-Assists in concentric acceleration of hip abduction.
-Assists in concentric acceleration of internal rotation of the hip.

Integrated function: 
-Assists in eccentric deceleration of hip extension.
-Assists in eccentric deceleration of hip adduction.
-Assists in eccentric deceleration of external rotation of the hip.
-Assists in dynamic stabilization of the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex and the tibio-femoral joint.

Nerve Supply:  Superior gluteal, L4, 5, S1.
